About My Musical Journey

I am
Leon Xiang, a 17-year-old pianist born in Vancouver and currently a Grade 12 French Immersion student. I began playing piano at the age of four, and music has since become one of the most important parts of my life—not only as a form of artistic expression, but also as a way to connect with people and contribute to my community.

Throughout my musical journey, I have been fortunate to receive recognition in competitions across Canada, the United States, and internationally.
Among the experiences I am most proud of are:

🥇 1st Prize & Scholarship, Pacific International Youth Piano Competition
A first-place achievement among competitors from across North America, reflecting both musical preparation and performance experience.

🥇 1st Prize, American Protégé International Music Talent Competition
Invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, New York on Christmas Eve

🥈 2nd Prize — Canadian Music Competition Final &  & Scholarship
A national-level achievement that challenged me to perform at my highest artistic and technical level.

🏆 2nd Prize Trophy & Scholarship — Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition
An international recognition that gave me the opportunity to represent my musical journey on a broader stage.

🎹 RCM Level 10 Practical Examination — High Score of 94
A strong result in the Royal Conservatory of Music Level 10 Practical Examination, demonstrating my technical preparation, musical interpretation, and consistency beyond competition settings.

I have had the opportunity to perform as a soloist and ensemble musician in many different settings. I have performed piano concertos with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra three times, an experience that taught me the discipline of listening, responding, and creating music as part of a larger ensemble.

Music Beyond the Competitions
For me, music has never been only about competitions or awards. I have participated in 150+ local concerts, charity performances, and community events, including major fundraising concerts organized by local hospitals and charitable foundations.

Performing for different audiences has taught me that the value of music cannot always be measured by a score, a trophy, or an applause. Sometimes, its greatest impact is simply making someone smile, bringing back a memory, or creating a moment of connection.

My journey as a pianist continues to evolve—from learning to perform, to learning to lead, and ultimately to learning how music can serve others.
