Leon Xiang
Musician.Leader. Builder.
I believe meaningful leadership happens at the intersection of culture, service, and innovation. Through music, entrepreneurship, and youth engagement, I strive to create opportunities that connect people and strengthen communities.
Leon Xiang is a Grade 11 French Immersion student at R.A. McMath Secondary School in Richmond, British Columbia. Passionate about business, international relations, and the arts, he seeks to bridge culture, leadership, and community impact through meaningful initiatives that serve others and inspire connection. As President of the Vancouver Young Pianist Club (VYPC), Leon leads communications, marketing, and event coordination for one of Canada's most active youth music organizations. Over the past twelve years, he has participated in and helped organize more than 120 community and charitable concerts, contributing to fundraising efforts that have generated over $120,000 for hospitals and nonprofit organizations across Metro Vancouver. Through regular performances at senior care homes and community events, he has witnessed firsthand how music can build empathy, strengthen communities, and improve lives.
At school, Leon founded and serves as President of the Jazz Club, creating opportunities for younger musicians to collaborate with senior band members while fostering a more connected music community. He is also actively involved in debate, Model United Nations, and student leadership initiatives. Beyond school, he is Co-Founder of The Spotlight Project, a youth-led platform connecting students with local volunteer opportunities, and serves as a Marketing Executive with the BC Youth Council, helping engage young people in civic and community initiatives.
Leon has also pursued experiences that connect business, culture, and real-world leadership. As a Seasonal Associate at Aritzia, he supports operations during major retail events, including the Vancouver Warehouse Sale. He additionally serves as an Operations Coordinator for TCT ARTE House, contributing to logistics and event operations for international cultural exhibitions, including Joie de Vivre, featuring Thomas Krens, former Director of the Guggenheim Foundation. As a piano and music theory instructor, Leon works with students of diverse ages and backgrounds, developing personalized approaches to learning and mentorship.
His academic interests extend beyond the classroom. In 2025, Leon completed the UBC Sauder Mini Business School program, where he explored entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, and leadership through case competitions and collaborative projects. In 2026, he will attend the University of Chicago Emerging World Leaders Program, an intensive residential humanities experience that brings together students from around the world to examine global challenges through interdisciplinary perspectives.
A dedicated pianist, Leon earned First Class Honours with Distinction (94%) in Royal Conservatory of Music Level 10 Piano Performance and is currently completing his ARCT Diploma. Alongside his musical studies, he remains committed to community outreach, youth mentorship, and expanding access to arts education.
Through his academic pursuits, artistic development, and leadership experiences, Leon strives to connect business, culture, and global engagement in ways that create lasting and meaningful impact. He believes that leadership is most powerful when it empowers others, and he is continually seeking opportunities to learn, contribute, and serve both local and global communities.
